What is your opinion on the FN Five-seveN USG?

I’m thinking of buying one before our Communist in Chief takes office.

I think it’s neat for collective purposes.

I don’t think I would personally use one as a shooter because the cost of the ammo.

If your just adding it to the collection and not going to use it as a carry or HD gun then go for it. If you already have other guns then a 5/7 might be cool to add. I just wouldn’t want one as my only handgun.

    Answered this one before.

The 5.7 round was designed for the P90 and so it can penetrate armor vests. So that the troops would not have to carry around two different types of ammunition, they made the Five Seven to shoot the same round. In a handgun it does not have all that much power. Also you can not buy the armor piercing round as a civilian. So you end up with a real compromise.

Get a good 357 mag or 45 ACP like the Springfield Armory XD. That way you will not have to “double tap” your targets as one round will be enough to put them down.

    Isn’t that a gun?

If I remember correctly, it has a 20 round magazine with 5.7cal rounds.
It looks ok, a bit odd. but it’s ok. as for the rate of fire, it’s ok as well.

i suggest that you try it out first. the grip could be a bit wide for a few people. self-defense gun, i’d still recommend a Glock (as long as you get one with a frame serial number that starts with “1″ – it means you’re getting the new one), preferrably 40 cal or 45cal. Glock had an issue with the right side rail, you can research on this.

before you start bringing any kind of firearm with you, be sure you have practiced to use it very well. in times when you will need to use your gun, it should all depend on muscle memory – reactive. Good luck and be safe!

Buy it! These little bastards are like having a handful of rifle rounds (20) to throw at near rifle energy/velocity. This round was created for police and military applications, specifically to defeat bad guys that are wearing body armor, or in a vehicle. It shoots great, has no maintenance issues, will accept accessories and again…you have a very high capacity married to a concealable, easily managed firearm. It isn’t for playing around with, it’s more like the pitbull of pistols…ugly, very dangerous, and capable of protecting its owner viciously.

I’ve held one, and it feels pretty good. From what I’ve seen, all of FN’s products make you smile one way or the other.

If memory serves me correctly, the round it shoots is designed to be a military self-defense round for officers, tank crews, pilots, cooks, and secondary personnel. It’s basically a modern .30 Carbine round philosophically. It’s chief advantages are ease of use, low recoil, and ability to penetrate body armor (which, in military dressing, it does WELL).

The 5n7 is supposedly very accurate and controllable. In practical terms, I don’t think it would be a good defense piece because you can’t get the AP rounds, and I don’t think they make hollowpoint rounds. Even if you could get rounds like that, I don’t believe the round would be superior to one of the commonly available defense rounds out now.

Cool piece, though. The ammo is pricey, but not THAT bad. It’s on my Top 10 Need to Get handgun list.
