First of all, “option” is just a key on a Mac keyboard. I can never remember what it is on a PC, but I think it’s alt. Just try alt-r. I bet that’s it…
but
That is an incredibly “janky” way to DJ! What they are suggesting is to play songs using two different applications and fade between them. Weird, and unnecessarily so.
Zulu is a free application that is highly recommended to beginning DJ’s. I have not used it personally, but I’m sure it would be a much better choice for crossfading between songs.http://www.nch.com.au/dj/index.html
If you really want to use iTunes, I guess I would go to edit>preferences>playback, then set “crossfade songs” to like 3 seconds. Then, you can just drop your next song into the playlist, and it will crossfade automatically. The beats will not match, but they won’t match using the John Mayer method either. This way will probably sound better and not look so WEIRD.

Zulu would be a better bet.
